Wow! Has it really been nearly a year since I last posted??
Time flies when you let it, and I have certainly let these past 10 months go on by in the blink of an eye. Of course, some of the moments didn't seem like that while it was happening. And so many things have happened since I last posted. I will start updating you now and parse it out in bits.
So to begin - after I was accepted to Ross I was in a frenzy to get ready to go to school and move out of the country. As you can imagine, it was hectic. But fun! I packed up my stuff, got registered, found a place to live, got my books, found a international shipping company, etc. Bit by bit over two months I got myself ready to go.
I was starting in January, and had to be there no later then Jan 4. So I made my arrangements to arrive Dec 31! I had already had a ticket and plans to go to California to spend time with my family over the holidays, so unfortunately I had to change that. As everything turned out, I ended up traveling down to school and starting everything by myself. It all went relatively smoothly, and although I would have enjoyed the company, it was better to start off as I would be living day to day life down there. I needed to get settled on my own and that's what I did.
That's were my journey began!

It's official!
Well, after over a year of taking classes, busting my butt for straight A's, doing research, working in a Veterinary hospital, and dong volunteer work - it has all paid off!
I have been accepted into my first choice Vet School - Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine!!
I am thrilled, relieved, and many other emotions. But above all else I am super excited :)

Hurricane Irene's Impact
Being a water lover and east coast resident, I was in the recent Hurricane Irene.
I was, fortunately, not impacted in any noticeable way. I know there are millions of people still out of power as of today as well as looking for clean water or ice and I feel very lucky.
As the hurricane system built power I started wondering how it would impact that marine life in its path. I know that I was not called in to our local stranding center yet, but I wonder what this next week will bring.
I started doing some research online and here is what I have learned so far:
Loggerhead turtles nests
I will continue to see what else I can learn and will post as I find out.

Winter the dolphin
I have meant to post about Winter a while ago. Here's a bit about her story. But I couldn't believe it when they have made a movie about her! See below for movie info
This dolphin lost her tail after getting catch in a crab trap. She's in a rehab facility and they have fitted her with various prosthetics over the past few years to enhance her life. Looks like now she will be a celebrity!

Long time, no posts
It's been a while since I have updated the blog, but it has been an interesting summer so far.
In the past several weeks I have continued learning many awesome things at my job, gotten to do some amazing things while volunteering with the stranding team, and completed some summer school courses with success! So still on track for my goals!
I also was hoping to be completing an independent research study this summer, but for a few reason (which were completely out of my control) I wasn't able to do that. That was a bummer, but I did everything that I could to make that happen. It may still come together for the fall; we will see!
More to come soon...
